The Bible is God’s Word for God’s people—but many Christians feel unsure where to begin, how to understand what they are reading, or how to apply Scripture faithfully to everyday life.
How to Read the Bible is a two-night Calvary Institute seminar designed to help you grow in confidence, clarity, and joy as you read Scripture. Whether you are new to Bible study or have been reading the Bible for years, this class will help you slow down, ask better questions, understand context, trace the storyline of Scripture, and read the Bible as one unified story fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
Night One (10/28) will focus on observation, context, and meaning. We will learn how to pay careful attention to the text, ask good interpretive questions, consider literary and historical context, and understand what a passage means.
Night Two (11/4) will focus on theology, Christ, and application. We will consider how each passage fits within the whole Bible, how Scripture points us to Christ, how it shapes our doctrine and worship, and how we apply God’s Word wisely and faithfully in everyday life.
This seminar is not simply about gaining Bible-study tools, though it will provide practical tools. It is about becoming better readers of God’s Word so that we might know God more deeply, love Christ more fully, and live more faithfully in the world.
Our hope is that "How to Read the Bible" will equip you to approach Scripture with humility, attentiveness, confidence, and joy. Our aim is to learn how to study the Bible, as well as how to be formed by the God who speaks through his Word.

Technology and the Christian Life: How to Live for Christ in a Technological Age

Technology is everywhere. It shapes how we communicate, work, learn, rest, parent, worship, and relate to one another. In many ways, technology is a gift: it's a tool that can help us love our neighbors, serve others, create, organize, and connect. But technology is never neutral in its effects. The tools we use also shape our habits, desires, attention, relationships, and imagination.
Technology and the Christian Life is a Calvary Institute class designed to help Christians think wisely and faithfully about life in a technological age. Together, we will consider both the opportunities and the dangers of technology, asking how followers of Jesus can use digital tools without being discipled by them.
This class will explore technology as a tool, how technology shapes us as people, and the particular impact it has on Christians seeking to live faithfully in the world. We will consider questions of attention, distraction, embodiment, relationships, formation, wisdom, and witness. We will also reflect on what it means to be made in the image of God in a world that often pulls us toward disembodied, distracted, and disconnected ways of life.
The goal of this class is not fear, guilt, or withdrawal. Instead, we want to grow in wisdom. How can we receive good gifts with gratitude while also resisting patterns that deform us? How can we use technology in ways that serve love of God and neighbor? How can we recover the value of embodied presence, faithful limits, deep attention, and life together as the church?
Whether you feel overwhelmed by technology, curious about its influence, or simply want to think more intentionally about your digital habits, this class will help you consider how to live for Christ with faithfulness, wisdom, and joy in a technological age.
